Volkswagen Displays Its First Self Driving Car At Cityscape – Dubai

HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum inaugurated the CityScape Global 2017 at Dubai World Trade Centre. He also went about viewing some of the most exciting projects happening around Dubai. Most recently, the Crown Prince of Dubai was seen checking out Volkswagen’s self-driving cars, Sedric – which was also displayed at the Cityscape.

Sedric is a ‘Level 5’ automated driving system – making them the most autonomous of the self-driving vehicles. Passengers can talk to the car and interact with it. Volkswagen aimed to make Sedric very simple to operate, resulting in a remote control called The Button: pressing it summons Sedric and identifies the user when the car arrives. Two wide doors on each side slide open to reveal an airy interior with sofa-style seats facing towards the center.
Sedric has no steering wheel, no pedals, and no conventional cockpit controls or instruments. Volkswagen says this permits “a completely new sense of well-being in the vehicle—a welcome home feeling.”
