Apple Inc To Reignite Interest In Self Driving Cars

After shutting down most of its operations on “Project Titan” which started way back in 2014, Apple Inc has scaled back its ambitions to develop a self driving car. The company has roped in Bob Mansfield, a longtime executive who over the years had led hardware engineering for some of Apple’s most successful products.
Mansfield who initially layed off a couple of engineers, is more determined than ever now. This has propelled the team has grown again, adding more personnel with expertise in autonomous systems, rather than car production.
In April, the California Department of Motor Vehicles granted Apple a test permit to allow the company to test autonomous driving technology in three 2015 Lexus RX 450h sport utility vehicles. There will be a safety driver monitoring the car during testing.
