Canada Celebrates A New Milestone, By Testing Autonomous Cars On Public Roads
Canada, the land known for its finest maple syrups is celebrating yet another milestone as the country witnessed its first official self-driving car test on public roads. The street test was conducted in Ottawa’s west end using technology developed by Blackberry.
Blackberry’s QNX team along with the city of Ottawa joined hands, to form a partnership where the latter would develop and test self-driving vehicle software in the city.
With support from BlackBerry QNX and its Autonomous Vehicle Innovation Center and by working closely with all our partners, we are facilitating smart initiatives and research, and fuelling innovation and job creation in Ottawa.
– Jim Watson, City Mayor.
The test was conducted on public roads which were closed from the general public during the demonstration. Yet, this is one of its most crucial steps toward seeing the widespread integration of self-driving vehicles. With ongoing legislation’s gaining support and assistance across the globe, its only a matter of time before this technology thrives and every individual has a crack at it!
