Apple SUVs now loaded with expanded LIDAR system for self-driving data collection
Apple’s Driverless Cars have a new set of updated cameras and sensors on board. These systems are to help developers gather wider aspects of data from the ground level. Although this was something that Apple already had, the current update reveals a more elaborate and advanced sensor setup.
The Lexus SUVs feature two central LIDAR setups at the front and rear of the car, with other sensors surround them. Apart from that, Apple has also upgraded the current version of the car to a 2016/2017 Lexus RX450h SUV. LIDAR is generally useful for “ground truthing,” which is the process of “collecting ground-truth data to enable calibration of remote-sensing data and help develop systems.”
