Abu Dhabi Gains Momentum With Its Electric And Autonomous Plans

Abu Dhabi’s Department of Transport and Masdar, Abu Dhabi’s Future Energy Company, have signed a MOU to cooperate in the study, testing and evaluation of sustainable, electrical and autonomous transport technologies. The partnership will cover a range of initiatives, including the establishment of pilot projects and capacity building, as well as testing for electrical and autonomous vehicle technologies.
Masdar City is already a pioneer in the field of sustainable mobility. Back in 2010, they introduced the world’s first permanent driverless Personal Rapid Transit (PRT) system, which will now extended by using autonomous electric vehicles provided by the French manufacturer Navya.

This partnership will help to identify innovative technologies that may be potentially developed at scale, complementing the larger sustainable transport strategy of Abu Dhabi.

– Jameel Al Ramahi, CEO Masdar
The capital’s Department of Transport is also committed to sustainable transport and the use of low emission vehicles. With this, officials are also keen to motivate the public to move towards the use of environmentally friendly vehicles in order to further boost the quality of life in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
