Tesla And Apple Find Themselves At The Bottom Of The Pile
Colorado based Research team – Navigant Research recently compiled a report on 19 companies working on Automated Driving Systems. And to the surprise of many, Tesla and Apple were listed as the two “biggest laggards” in the race, behind General Motors and Alphabet’s Waymo, which took the top positions.
The research team ranked the 19 major companies developing AV technology based on 10 criteria, including vision, market strategy, partnerships, production strategy, technology, product quality and staying power. Elon Musk’s Tesla, despite being hyped frequently by the media, had to cut a sorry figure with its autopilot system that has stagnated and, in many respects, regressed since it was first launched in late 2015.
Tesla has also become known for repeatedly failing to deliver on vehicle production targets, with frequent delays. The company’s stock recently plummeted, after the announcement of their largest quarterly loss in history. The latter half of 2017 also witnessed the company undergoing several rounds of employee layoffs.
